There are just weeks left until Hemel Hempstead’s second Aldi swings open its doors to the general public.
The discount supermarket chain already has a store in the town near the roundabout between Redbourn Road, St Agnells Lane and the Link Road.
It has been so ‘phenomenally successful’ that its owners are already about to open a second Aldi in Hemel Hempstead. The new store – which is at the Two Waters Road junction with London Road, near the A41 – is due to open on Thursday, July 31.
The supermarket will replace the former Volvo dealership and construction work on the site began in February.
Around half of the store’s 37 employees – including a manager and assistant manager – have already been sourced from the area.
It is believed that Aldi is targeting popular commuting routes in the hope that drivers will pop in on their way home from work.
The German retailer’s property director Phillip Warner said: “Our store on Redbourn Road, which opened in November last year, has been a phenomenal success.
“We are delighted to have been so well received within the town.”
The new Aldi will have a four-aisle, 1,006 sqm sales area with 81 parking spaces and will trade from 8am to 9pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
Plans by Aldi’s German rival Lidl for a discount store in Berkhamsted were met with a rather different response. People in the town launched a petition against it.
