A six-year-old boy was hit by a car while walking to school across Northchurch High Street this morning.
The collision comes just a month after his headteacher Eloise Haezewindt warned that unless something is done to calm traffic in the area, a child could be injured.
The lower limit would have stretched around St Mary’s C of E School, covering the part of the High Street where the boy was hit.
Paramedics rushed to his aid and called police for their support just after 8.40am. Officers closed the road when they arrived less than 10 minutes later and the child was rushed to hospital.
He is thought to have only suffered minor injuries after the collision with a silver Toyota Avensis and the road was reopened by 9.40am.
Police are investigating what caused the collision, but this website understands that the boy was not using the pelican crossing when he was hit.
