If the endeavours of the London Marathon runners have inspired you to do more running, why not set yourself the challenge of a more local fundraising event?
The Ashridge Trail Half Marathon will take place on Sunday, June 22, to raise money for Rennie Grove Hospice Care, which is based in St Albans and Tring.
The 13-mile event will help pay for the services it provides to people in the area with cancer and other life-limiting illness.
The Ashridge Trail Half Marathon starts and finishes in front of the stunning Ashridge House near Berkhamsted and takes you on a challenging course through the mature woodland of the beautiful Ashridge Estate.
Rennie Grove events fundraiser, who ran the London Marathon on Sunday, said: “We launched this event last year and were really pleased with the response to it.
“Around 100 runners took part on the day and gave really positive feedback about the challenge of the off-road trail element and the beautiful countryside.
“Altogether, the event raised £10,000 and we’re really hoping that we can beat that amount this year.
“What’s good is that participants of all abilities are welcome, and chip timing offers everyone the chance to set a personal best time.
“If you haven’t taken on a half-marathon before and are looking for a challenge in 2014, this really is a great way to get involved and test yourself.
“We encourage participants to make a day of it and bring their family and friends along to support them.
“The finish location is a perfect setting for a picnic and fingers crossed we’ll have a lovely sunny day in June.”
The Ashridge Trail Half Marathon is open to runners over the age of 18 and starts at 9am. Registration costs just £17 and includes an official Ashridge Trail Half Marathon T-shirt, medal on completion, water en-route and use of a timing chip.
