The Gazette reunites Little Jim’s bus driver with the passenger she helped in her hour of need

Little Jim's Bus driver Michelle Littlechild helped Lisa Gregory by taking her to the Hospice of St Francis.

Little Jim's Bus driver Michelle Littlechild helped Lisa Gregory by taking her to the Hospice of St Francis.

A bus driver who went the extra mile after a passenger who got a call to say her dad had died while travelling to see him says that’s what her job is all about.

Michelle Littlechild, who works for Berkhamsted’s Little Jim’s Buses, got distraught Lisa Gregory a cuppa and then dropped her at the doors of the Hospice of St Francis so that she could be at her father’s bedside.

It meant that she could spend precious moments with the 74 year old shortly after he had lost his life to cancer.

Now the Gazette has helped to reunite Michelle and Lisa, of Adeyfield, who was keen to thank the kind-hearted driver.

Michelle, who has been bus driver for 11 years, said: “I tend to look after my passengers - I do tend to go the extra mile. I think they’re important - without them I wouldn’t be in a job.”

Hemel Hempstead mum-of-five Lisa was making her way to the hospice aboard the 502 bus when she received a call from her niece to say ex-RAF aircraftman Tony Gregory had just passed away.

She burst into tears and that’s when Michelle sprung into action. Passengers also did their best to comfort distraught Lisa.

Michelle’s boss Jim Petty said: “It was the decent thing to do. Obviously you try and help people in distress if you can.

“I’m pleased that she did what she did. It didn’t put the other passengers out very much and obviously it was a great help to the lady concerned.

“If you speak to most of our passengers you will find they are pleasantly pleased with the service we provide.”

The small Berkhamsted-based bus firm prides itself on running on time and not cancelling services.
