Verve is long-awaited investment in the town

New bar and club Verve opens in Hemel Hempstead

Hemel Hempstead’s newest clubbing venue welcomed its first punters over the weekend, after a VIP launch event on Thursday night.

Even town MP Mike Penning and Mayor of Dacorum Allan Lawson headed down to bar and club Verve – situated in the centre of Marlowes near the Market Square – for its inaugural night.

The strict over-21s policy was no problem for the two dignitaries, who rubbed shoulders with other lucky guests and enjoyed free drinks and canapes in the suave setting, which is themed like the interior of a mansion house complete with a chessboard dancefloor.

Verve then opened its doors to the wider public for its first full weekend, which had seen considerable interest on social media and hundreds of enquiries to the club’s website.

The venue operates a formal dress code and no trainers are allowed, although uniquely, those who arrive not dressed for the occasion can be provided with shirts and shoes from the counter.

The venue is, in fact, run by the same management as the Function Rooms nearby.

But as opposed to just being a more upmarket establishment for the town centre, Mr Penning described Verve as a welcome investment in Hemel Hempstead’s nightlife scene.

He said: “I used to work in the sixth floor opposite this place and look down on what was here. I didn’t like it – it wasn’t nice.

“What this place has done – investing in our town – is phenomenal.

“I want to say a huge thank you from everybody for what has been done, because this place has been transformed. I am enormously proud.

“This is a lovely facility and investment in our town, which is what we want.”

Mayor Lawson echoed the MP’s sentiments, saying: “This town has been crying out for a venue like this for years.

“This will make a difference to the town and I wish every success to this venue.”

Verve’s opening has also brought with it 25 new jobs to the area.

The bar will be open from 7.30pm to 3.30am every weekend, with entry prices varying according to time.

It offers a range of cocktails, beers, wines and spirits, and plays a wide range of music from the 80s, 90s and present day.
