Young people have complained about small children, toddlers and exercising mums disrupting their enjoyment of the Berkhamsted Skate Park.
A new ‘Dear Parents’ sign says the Canal Fields site was built to give young people somewhere to go – and they should have priority for using it.
Swan Youth Centre coordinator Clare Muir said: “It’s not a playground for little toddlers. They can be very unpredictable and it would be awful if there was an accident.
“There are lots of parks in Berkhamsted and they should use them and leave the skate park to the skaters.
“Accidents happen with the skaters. They are almost prepared for it, but if a skater banged into a young child who was just running across the park, that would be awful.
“Parents and carers sometimes sit on the box in the middle of the skate park, but that’s actually a piece of equipment young people use for skating.”
The sign comes after parents complained about young people leaving litter in the area. Berkhamsted Youth Town Council is now encouraging young people to take responsibility for their rubbish.
