Yellow fever will be coming to Hemel Hempstead as Morrisons gives the town a double helping of its signature brand colour.
With the town set to benefit from a brand new budget supermarket this month and larger Morrisons coming by 2015, shoppers will have their pick of grocery giants.
But as well as the Aldi store opening in Redbourn Road on November 21 and the Morrisons superstore planned for Marlowes, a new convenience store is also expected to open.
Morrisons’ chain of grocery stores ‘M Local’ – similar to the smaller Tesco Express or Sainsbury’s Local outlets – is in discussions to set up shop somewhere in the town.
Although the location has not yet been revealed, earlier this year Morrisons bought 49 store units belonging to movie rental company Blockbuster to convert into M Local shops. Hemel Hempstead’s own Blockbuster remains empty in Marlowes since its closure at the start of the year.
While the new superstore further along on Marlowes – part of the forthcoming Link development – is expected to create 350 jobs, there are already two positions advertised for the smaller outlet online.
But the grocery giant isn’t revealing much about the plans just yet. Spokesman Laura Stubbs said: “We’re in the early stages of discussion about bringing a Morrisons M Local to Hemel Hempstead.
“We look forward to sharing our plans with the community should things progress.”
The supermarket chain is expected to have around 70 M Local stores in the UK by the end of this year. Visit mlocaljobs.com to apply for the jobs advertised in the town.
