The mother-of two who was stabbed to death in her home on Monday evening has been named as Nicola Cross, police confirmed this morning (Wednesday, September 16).
Mrs Cross, 37, was found dead at her home just after 11.30pm in Dunlin Road, Grovehill, Hemel Hempstead after police were called to reports of an attempted break in at the property next door.
Just an hour earlier, officers had been called to the same road after reports of suspicious activity.
They spoke to a 23-year-old man before releasing him, as no crime had been committed.
However, after the discovery of Mrs Cross’ body, they arrested the same man on suspicion of murder.
A 19-year-old man, from Hemel Hempstead, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to burgle but has been released on bail until September 25.
The 23-year-old, also from Hemel Hempstead, remains in custody.
Police are continuing with forensic examination at the victim’s home address.
A post mortem is due to take place later today.
It is believed Mrs Cross’ husband was at work at the time of the tragedy, but the couple’s two young children were asleep upstairs.
