While many Old Town traders have suffered losses due to ongoing road works, there are two success stories emerging from the rubble.

A brand new start-up business offering salon treatments and non-surgical facelifts, The CACI Retreat, is due to take up residence in existing salon Lacey Brown Hair and Beauty from early December.

Owner Chantelle Lynn, 27, originally from Berkhamsted, is not put off by the delays to roadworks, which have been set back until next spring.

She said: “I am a positive person and I think it is a good time to come in. The roadworks haven’t affected me using High Street businesses so why should it affect anyone else I don’t know.

“When the work is done it will be a more inviting place, so I see it as a positive.”

Another High Street business is also undergoing improvement works. AIC Insurance, formerly ALH, is housed in a Grade II listed building which has seen its original ornate ceiling and old bank strong room carefully restored.
