There are fears among Tring’s leaders that another estate agents could soon be opening in the centre of town.

A meeting of Tring Town Council’s planning committee heard on Monday that the owner of High Street shop number 35A wants to change its use. It is now home to Diffusion Hair Studio and Day Spa.

But the owner has applied for it to be used for the provision of ‘professional and financial services’.

The new use could allow it to be used as an estate agents, the committee was told.

Councillor Stephen Hearn said: “You know what’s going in there, don’t you?”

His wife Penny, also a town councillor and current mayor of Dacorum, said: “I don’t want to know.”

Mr Hearn, himself director of Tring Market Auctions, said: “This could be the last of our retail in an important part of our town.”

Councillors agreed that the change of use should be rejected, against the advice of their own working party.
