HIGHWAYS officials have covered up a traffic sign to avoid yet another eruption of complaints from motorists.
The warning sign giving notice that the notorious camera on Moor End Road bus lane in Hemel Hempstead town centre was going live previously said that it would happen ‘in July’, but it didn’t say what year, and was left unaltered as the new year began, leading to potential confusion.
Now county highways workers have stuck a patch on the sign so it simply reads ‘Enforcement Camera In Operation.’
It was the latest in a long line of problems to be highlighted about the lack of clear signage on the bus lane.
Since restrictions began to be enforced last summer, thousands of people have complained that the signs were not clear enough.
At one time the camera was catching out more than 1,000 motorists every day and more than 26,000 have been fined £60 for breaking the rules.
