One Hemel Hempstead business with a vision for charity has helped improve the shopping experiences of those less mobile.
Town centre optician SpecSavers has given a turbo-boost to a Community Action Dacorum-run scheme which helps those with mobility problems scoot around the shops.
The Shop-Mobility service, based in the Marlowes and part-funded by Dacorum Borough Council, gives people with a temporary or permanent mobility problem the chance to get out and about independently, Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 5pm.
Town Specsavers manager Mervyn Marsh said: “Being a community-oriented optician and having served the public of Hemel Hempstead for 19 years, we noticed that some of our original customers were having mobility difficulties and what a better way to advertise 365 days a year than by purchasing a mobility scooter with our brand emblazoned on the back.”
The idea was achieved by diverting funds from the branch’s other advertising sources which don’t currently help charitably.
Mervyn added: “We are proud of our involvement with Shopmobility and we will be sponsoring a further two chariots. We would recommend any local company who can afford to do so, to get involved as well.”
