A multicultural evening that helps to unite people from all walks of life is cancelled this year, but it will return in 2014 says organiser Jackie Ramnarine.

She founded the Dacorum Multicultural Evening during her time working as diversity co-ordinator at Hemel Hempstead School.

It has been running for around six years but after leaving the school, aspiring artist Jackie has pledged to keep the popular event alive.

“I think it is important that it continues to promote the diversity within our community and also to teach people about difference cultures,” she said.

The open-to-all event was launched to commemorate Black History Month. Jackie said: “You see families getting together doing activities together, the young and the old, interacting with each other. It is a whole learning aspect as well as a fun evening out.”

The evening, usually held in October, is supported by councillors, Dacorum Borough Council, Community Action Dacorum, Dacorum Arts Partnership and other groups.
