THIS monster of a sunflower was planted by little Kacie Roberts, who is just four years old.
The youngster put the seed in her back garden of her home in Vauxhall Road, Adeyfield, two years ago.
Now it has grown so big that dad Darren Ellingham, 37, phoned the HeraldExpress to express his astonishment.
He said: “We tried to take it out by the root last year, but couldn’t – so we just chopped it. This year it has gone mad!”
Darren’s partner Kim Roberts, 36, put a picture of the six-foot-high sunflower on her Facebook page.
“But people couldn’t believe it and said: It’s not real, it’s plastic,” said Darren.
He added: “It looks like a tree. There are branches coming out of it all over the place, and about 20 flowers.”
And among those to be impressed is our photographer Dave Satchel, who took the picture on the left and who has seen some giant specimens in his time.
