Paralympic TV show slot for school party
Iwan Thomas and Ella Beaumont Paralympics 2012
Disabled school pupils who went to the Paralympics were thrilled to also appear on television.
The eight students from Tring School were among 200 pupils from schools in Berkhamsted, Tring and Hemel Hempstead who were able to go to the games thanks to Rotary clubs in Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamsted.
Channel 4 heard about the trip and asked to film the Tring students when during their visit on Thursday.
The students watched swimming in the aquatic centre and toured the Olympic park while the cameras followed them.
Tring School’s deputy head Andrew Dobberson and sixth former Ella Beaumont were interviewed for the Paralympic breakfast show.
Mr Dobberson said: “The crew stayed with us throughout the day and from that a three-minute clip of it and our interviews were broadcast on the Sunday morning show.
“Presenter and Olympian Iwan Thomas spoke to Ella about her ambitions of competing in basketball at the Rio Olympics while I expressed how the games have inspired pupils.”
