On Tuesday night I won the 'Best of the year, Ever' competition at my local camera club.
It was with a portrait of my daughter that I took when I'd just redecorated my studio (front bedroom).
I was over the moon. I got a commended too with a photo of a friend's little girl.
I've been going to Imagez Camera Club (Weston Turville) for quite a while. Ever since I owned a Fujifilm DX10 (1.4Mp camera!) and I was working in IT.
Originally I started at Tring Camera Club but started going to Weston Turville on a Tuesday evenings just to see what it was like and eventually went to Imagez full time.
There is nothing wrong with Tring Camera club, lots of lovely people go there but the style of club at Imagez suits me better.
The club meets on a Tuesday evening from September through to April then meets every other Tuesday (Usually although it can vary) for the summer program when we go out and about with our cameras taking photos then some of us end up at the pub.
The winter program starts with a course for new users to cameras and this year we're going to run a complete beginners course, every other week for four weeks (so eight in all, the other Tuesdays are for the regular club meetings).
Then there will be an intermediate course. After Christmas there is usually a studio course every other week for four weeks for those that want to learn that too.
'Normal' club nights will have events like competitions when a judge comes along and talks about your photos and chooses a winner.
This is where I have learned the most about taking a good photograph. Sometimes they have a guest speaker; they may be a top photographer or someone else really interesting who is willing to share their knowledge.
I can honestly say that I wouldn't be where I am today without Imagez Camera Club.
I've learnt loads and by entering their competitions and hearing critiques on my photos have helped me improve and get the confidence to go on courses and eventually to start my own photography business.
