Photography blog: 20.7.09

I'm sorry I haven't blogged for a couple of weeks. Now is the busiest time for wedding photographers and I'm no exception. (Thank goodness or we wouldn't eat).

I've also covered an event for The Gazette. The Wigginton Festival was on Sunday, July 12 and I went up there with a few of my grandchildren.

I like to go to local events if I can and taking the kiddies is a good excuse.

There was a lot going on including tug 'o war, classic car show, some WW2 singing by two lovely ladies, Morris Dancing, lots of stalls and fair type rides.

I was looking at the Wigginton history stall when a lovely man called Richard Tregonning spoke to me.

I told him I was taking pictures of the festival and he took my card.

Later on the next day I got an email from him asking for some of my photos for their history society.

If you have any photos of Wigginton that you think they might be interested contact me and I'll pass you on to Richard.

Some of my photos were published in The Gazette and there are more to be viewed here www.peachpicture.co.uk (including the Aldbury Morris Men I talk about later).

One of the photos that was published was of the Aldbury Morris Men and coincidentally I was at the Full Moon in Cholesbury Common www.thefullmoonpub.co.uk for a drink with friends and they were there too.

Unlike the festival day which was gorgeous, it tipped it down last night and the Aldbury Morris Men nipped in and out between showers to give a show of their hilarious/clever dancing.

When they weren't outside they were in imbibing of the local beer and singing. They are BRILLIANT!

They sing and play a range of musical instruments as expertly as I've heard before. We were also treated to some clog dancing.

I think it's really important to document these sorts of things.

Going back to the Wigginton History stall, they had loads of photos of people and places taken in the 1850's onwards.

They must have been workaday at the time but now we love looking at them.

I take photos of houses and roads in Tring and people and cars.

Some people have asked me why and I say that they'll be interesting to your grandchildren!

We'll look as alien and yet familiar as the people in those old black and white/sepia photos we all love looking at now and people will be saying, did they really wear those clothes/drive those cars/have gardens?!
