Voters in Dacorum are being urged to make sure they are on the electoral roll if they want to have a say – even if their details haven’t changed from last year.
Dacorum Borough Council’s elections team is reminding those eligible to vote that they must respond to letters which will be landing on doorsteps from tomorrow.
This year, you also need to opt out if you don’t want your name passed on to commercial companies to use for marketing purposes.
Council democratic service manager Jim Doyle said: “Even if you registered last year and your details are still the same, you’ve still legally got to respond again this year.
“It’s important, otherwise you lose your right to vote, you might get fined, your credit rating may be affected and the council also has to organise reminder visits to you at home.”
If there are no changes to your details you can confirm this online, by post, phone or text. If there are changes to be made, you must amend the form, sign it and return it to the council in the prepaid envelope, following the instructions on the form.
