A poorly puss who was handed into a rescue centre with a womb infection and glaucoma is now doing well thanks to the kindness of cat lovers.

Pebbles, a seven-year-old black domestic shorthair, came into the Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamsted branch of Cats Protection in a sorry state but thanks to the generosity of the general public, some of her ‘astronomical’ vet bills have been paid.

Cat fosterer Amanda Broome set up a Go Fund Me page asking feline fans to help out with Pebbles’ care and has been amazed by the response, with £365 being donated to date.

Ms Broome said: “She’s a lovely little girl but she had to a full hysterectomy and her eye removed, which has been sent off for a biopsy. She’s well on the way to recovery now.”

Ms Broome has set a target of £1,500 on the fundraising page, which will pay a portion of Pebbles’ vet bills which are only expected to rise.

Besides donating online, others have helped by dropping cash into the Vets4Pets in Queensway, Hemel Hempstead, and by donating cat food.

It’s hoped that the puss will be well enough to be rehomed soon, but she is just one of many cats who are waiting for their forever homes, as fosterers’ homes are at full capacity.
