SHOPPERS visiting the giant Tesco store in Jarman Park will need to have a pound coin handy from next month if they’re planning to use a trolley.
The Hemel Hempstead supermarket is introducing the pound coin release system from the start of August in a bid to stop thieves from making off with the store’s trolleys.
A Tesco spokesman said: “It is something that we have been monitoring for a while.
“We want to ensure that we have always got trolleys available for our customers and we know that it can cause problems for the local community if trolleys are abandoned.”
The lock system will be introduced on all trolleys except those designed for use by people in wheelchairs.
