More than 17,000 children have been allocated places at primary, junior and middle schools by county chiefs this week.
Of those, more than 95 per cent got a place at one of their preferred schools.
The number of parents applying for a place for their child in a Herts reception class remains high with 14,859 applications – although this group was slightly smaller than last year with 99 fewer applications.
Based on the application levels two Hemel Hempstead schools - Brockswood and South Hill - will be expanding so that more pupils can be admitted in September. These places will be made available under the first run of ‘continuing interest’ in the week commencing May 13.
