Hemel Hempstead’s Amazon team dressed as superheroes to mark the company’s second annual Prime Day last week.

Thursday, July 14 was the biggest day ever for sales of Amazon electronic devices globally, including Fire TV, Fire tablets and Kindle e-readers.

Amazon, which opened its Hemel Hempstead site in 2012, announced that customer orders surpassed last year’s Prime Day by more than 60 per cent worldwide.

Hemel’s Amazon warehouse on Maylands celebrated with a number of fun activities for the team.

The superhero-themed events included cupcakes for the whole team, balloons, special edition t-shirts, free food and soft drinks and competitions to top win prizes.

General manager Lorenzo Barbo said: “Prime Day in Hemel Hempstead has been a fantastic success and myself and the team here are delighted to have played a part in helping it become Amazon’s biggest day ever.

“To mark the event, we decided to have a party for all of the team on Prime Day. It was great to see everyone in Hemel Hempstead have a great time on another record-breaking day for Amazon.”

“We have been delighted by the response from our customers for Prime Day here in the UK,” commented Doug Gurr, UK Country Manager at Amazon.

“In fact, the day was our biggest day of the year so far, and by 6pm customers had already ordered more items than Prime Day last year.”
