A PUB’S punters are on tenterhooks over the future of their local – after finding out it could be turned into a restaurant.

Regulars at the Black Horse on Frogmore Street in Tring fear the Punch Taverns-owned watering hole will be turned into an eaterie.

Temporary landlord Steve Ryan said the pub could be reopened as a restaurant and worried punter Dave Whicker said: “This is one of the last typical boozers in town and it is going to have the heart ripped out of it.”

Punch Taverns spokesman Alice Bowden said: “A local couple have been recruited to take on the lease at the Black Horse and anticipate they will start towards the end of June. We look forward to working closely with the new licensees to help them build a successful pub business that will be a credit to the local community and offer good quality food and cask ales.”
