A community fun day held to celebrate the Queen’s official birthday went down a treat on Saturday, and attracted some surprise guests, too.

Star Wars baddie Darth Vader was an unlikely visitor to the royal-themed party, but had fun with youngsters who also decorated crowns and played on the bouncy castle and slide.

Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning also turned up to show his support for the event at Grovehill Community Centre, which was geared towards raising money for military charity Help For Heroes.

Organiser Vicky Jordan said afterwards: “Not as many people as last year came, but everybody had lots of fun which is the main thing. I enjoyed myself too.

“We haven’t yet counted up the total amount we raised but we are continuing to sell Help For Heroes wristbands and pin badges throughout the week.”

Vicky would like to thank Kat Bailey, Ross Bennett, Sarah Batty and Candy Floss Aylesbury for all their help in making the day such a success.
