Recognition for Oxfam’s Berkhamsted bookshop after Beckett bonanza

Oxfam Book Shop award
Oxfam Book Shop award

Head office charity chiefs visited Berkhamsted’s Oxfam book and music shop to present staff there with an award.

The accolade from the Charity Retail Association is for the most valuable item sold in 2012 by a good cause with more than 100 shops.

Oxfam bagged the prize after selling a first edition of Samuel Beckett’s novel Murphy for £12,000 at auction.

Presenting the award was Oxfam’s head of retail Ian Matthews and deputy director of trading Anne Webb who handed the certificate over to Geoff Smith, the High Street shop volunteer who spotted the valuable book among donations given to the popular store.
