Emergency crews met with old folk to talk to them about crime prevention and fire safety.

It is hoped that the visit to sheltered accommodation at Shaftesbury Court in Valley Road, Northchurch, will help prevent future incidents.

Police community support officer Kim Ashworth, who organised the event, gave a talk on home security, preventing distraction burglary and keeping belongings safe when out and about.

She said: “It was very well received by the residents who thanked me afterwards. These events are so useful in reaching a section of the community, who because of their age, can make them more vulnerable to crime or fires in the home.”

Police and fire officers also work with meals on wheels to visit older people in their homes.
