A secondhand children’s wear event that draws crowds of bargain hunters has raised £7,214 towards Oxfam’s urgent work to help Syrian refugees.

The Berkhamsted children’s wear event is held twice a year at the town’s Civic Centre in High Street.

Organiser Nicky Evans said: “We are so grateful to all our customers, donors and volunteers.

“At a time when the humanitarian crisis resulting from the conflict in Syria is stretching aid organisations to the limit, such a boost to the income is doubly welcome.”

The winter wear sale was held on Friday, September 6 but those who missed out can still pick up bargains at the town’s High Street Oxfam shop.

Oxfam’s expertise in water and sanitation is taking vital supplies to refugees in Syria’s neighbouring countries and works have also started to repair damaged infrastructure.
