Now is the perfect time to show your support for marathon running PC Martin Anderson as his charity challenge begins to take its toll.

The police officer, who works on the frontline in Dacorum responding to 999 calls, has promised to run 56 marathons in 56 weeks.

He is raising funds for Rennie Grove Hospice Care, whose nurses helped fulfil Martin’s mother’s wish to die at home.

Sylvia Blake passed away in April 2013 after a battle with gall bladder cancer.

But the reality of 35 year old Martin’s challenge is now starting to bite as injuries begin to make themselves known.

He was forced to abandon marathon 14 on Saturday due to a painful left knee and his injuries meant he had to attempt marathon 12 several times before completing it.

“I’ve been having some nasty injury problems and have been falling a bit behind,” said Martin. “I’m four marathons behind and I’m struggling badly with some knee problems, which I’m hopefully having a physio look at this week.”

PC Anderson, who has been training with Hemel Hempstead’s Gade Valley Harriers, is completing a combination of commercial marathons and runs that have been plotted out by himself.

He aims to raise £10,000 and hosted a music event at Olly’s Bar in Hemel Hempstead’s town centre in June to boost funds.

The police officer will complete the challenge in April 2016 on the three-year anniversary of his mother’s death

Martin is appealing for corporate sponsorship to help cover the cost of entering the commercial marathons.
