A singer was told by hard to impress Simon Cowell she had one of the best vocals that Britain’s Got Talent has ever seen when she performed for the TV show.

Alison Jiear - usually a backing singer - stepped into the spotlight for her moment on stage when she sang You’ll Never Walk Alone.

The Hemel Hempstead mum, who told the show she had attempted but failed to secure a record deal in the past, was given a standing ovation by all four judges and the crowd.

Before heading on stage, she told the ITV cameras: “I don’t want to stop trying, that is why I’m here.

“I want to show my kids you shouldn’t be scared, you should chase it no matter whether you are 17, 18 or 49.

“It is time for me to stick my neck on the chopping block and give it a go.”

After her performance, Simon Cowell told Alison: “This was your one shot and oh my god you took it. That was probably one of the best vocals we have ever had on the show.”

Alesha Dixon described the performance as ‘mighty, magnificent and powerful’.

All four judges said ‘yes’ to put her through to the next stage of the competition and judge David Walliams said: “The biggest yes I have ever given.”
