Sorry people sales up on Fringe thumbs up
Paul Eccentric may have to apologise to fans who can't get tickets for the last couple of performances of his play, The Sorry People, before it goes to The Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Ever since it was accepted for The Fringe, in August, its popularity has rocketed and tickets have been selling out fast.
The last opportunity to see it before it goes to The Fringe will be at The Pump House, in Watford, on Saturday, May 9.
The former Pepper director can only do a maximum of six showings of his bleak comedy before it goes to Edinburgh, in order for it to be accepted for the Fringe First competition.
The prestigious award recognises outstanding new writing premiered at The Fringe and Eccentric's Sorry People will be one of hundreds of plays watched and deliberated over by judges.
His piece features six poignant, comic and shocking character monolgues, which are given by three actors; Pete Curtis, Ruth Leah and Michael Redston, and audiences are invited to log onto the website to debate the controversial issues that are brought up.
Paul said: "When we took it to London we showed it at Public Life, an underground converted men's toilets, in Spittlefields. We figured it would help us to compete with the big London shows by doing it in an unusual venue. We also did an excerpt of it at a new writers festival in Hoxton where people wrote down what they thought so it was good to get the feedback. At the moment we are trying to find a less self conscious way for people to join in with the debate on issues in the play."
