A Premier League football manager from Dagnall was the subject of Twitter rumours which accused him of having punched one of his players after an away defeat.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood, who lives in the Dacorum village, has been defended by two of his players after posts on the social networking site claimed the rookie manager had an altercation in the wake of a 4-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Spurs striker Roberto Soldado and winger Aaron Lennon later took to their own social media accounts to deny 45-year-old Sherwood had hit anyone. While Soldado described the allegations as ‘absolutely false’ on his Instagram profile, Lennon remarked it is ‘crazy how powerful Twitter is’ in spreading rumours.

The club declined to comment.
