STUDENTS separated by 6,000 miles will unite to celebrate the Olympic Games with special performances across the county.
A choir from Mgezwa in South Africa will join The Hemel Hempstead School to début a joint performance composed by a fellow sixth-former.
The Mgezwa Choir of 13 students aged 14 to 15 have never travelled outside of their own town of Lusikisiki.
Both schools have had a partnership since 2007, which celebrates talented dance, drama and music students.
Hemel staff and students from the school in Heath Lane visited the South African school in October last year, inspiring songwriter Tom Durrant to write a piece called Ukuhamba Kukufunda, which means Travelling Is Learning.
Tom’s song will be performed in public for the first time on Wednesday, July 4 at Watford Boys School.
During their tour, the Mgezwa Choir will sing in Hemel Hempstead’s town centre as the Olympic torch passes through on Sunday, July 8 at 12.30pm.
The performances are part of the Cultural Olympiad, celebrating different cultures.
