The Oxbridge offers have been pouring in for Dacorum pupils.
Eight from Berkhamsted School’s sixth form – which charges £5,820 per term – have secured offers from Oxford or Cambridge.
But Tring School head of sixth-form Heather Golla said: “We have got two and we are free, so surely that’s much, much better.”
They are Hannah Salih – offered a place to study English at Oxford, and Xavier Cohen, offered a place studying philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford.
Christopher Miles was the only student at Ashlyns School in Berkhamsted to get an Oxbridge offer. He wants to study maths in Cambridge.
The Berkhamsted School pupils to get Oxbridge offers are Natalie Lo, Ed Hart, Naomi Pyburn, Catherine Haigh, Alisha O’Grady, Olivia Taylor, Erica Wood and Tessa Forbes. Last year 75 per cent of its students got a place at their first-choice university.
Tring School has sent 126 applications to UCAS out of 150 students this year.
Etain Nicks, assistant head of the sixth-form at the Astley Cooper School in Hemel Hempstead, said that 30 of its 32 Year 13 students have applied for university places.
They are waiting for replies.
