Thieves target Tring newsagents with sledgehammer in morning raid

Two thieves broke into a newsagents in Tring using a sledgehammer.

The offenders smashed in a glass door at the back of Martin McColls newsagents in Tring High Street between 12.20-12.30am on Tuesday October 3.

Making their way through the damaged door, which is at the back of the Dolphin Court premises, they took a quantity of cigarettes from behind the counter before escaping through the back entrance.

Thanfully, there were no staff inside the store at the time of the burglary in the early hours of the morning.

Police have described the two men as wearing dark clothing and balaclavas.

DC Chris Phillips, from the Dacorum Local Crime Unit, is invesigating the crime.

He said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have seen a vehicle leave the scene.

“Were you walking or driving along the High Street around this time? We would be very keen to speak to you.”
