Community spirit was at an all time high at the annual switch on of Tring’s lights on Friday.

More than 8,000 people enjoyed a festival programme of music at the Akeman stage, buskers in Dolphin Square, Santa’s grotto in Victoria Hall as well as stalls, refreshments and a fun fair.

Heather Simms of Tring Together, which organises the event, said: “We had a constant stream of people at all of the festival areas. The event went really well.

“The entertainment was excellent. There were youngsters doing solos with Showstoppers on the Akeman Stage as well as the lively Rock Chorus.

“The most exciting thing for me was the success of Victoria Hall, which was used as a Christmas festival venue for the first time by Tring Together.

“It looked beautiful and there were queues of children all wanting to meet Santa so now we are hoping we can use it again next year.”
