A CLEAN up operation along the A41 has produced eight-and-a-half tonnes of rubbish.

Clean, Safe and Green workers from Dacorum Borough Council carried out a seven day blitz of grass verges along the busy bypass.

A group of 10 cleaned the stretch of road on both sides from the M25 to Tring, covering a total of 26 miles. The slip roads were also spruced up.

The most unusual item to be collected was a cupboard door, while the majority of the litter was made up of drink cans, plastic bottles and food wrappers.

The last major clean up of the carriageway was in 2009 when six tonnes of litter was collected.
