Hemel Hempstead town centre was buzzing on Saturday as visitors flocked to Live @ New Town Square to watch a children’s film classic on the new big screen.

A crowd of dedicated young Elsas and Annas were excited to see Disney’s Frozen was the first film to be shown on the LCD TV screen installed on the Marlowes.

The free community event was organised by Dacorum Borough Council to give everyone a taste of what the new look town centre now has to offer following its Hemel Evolution regeneration.

Mum Charlotte Tofte brought her daughter Poppy into town especially for the event.

She said: “It’s so much better than before. Events like this would definitely make us come into Hemel more often. You don’t get this experience when you’re shopping online.”

The newly created New Town Square opposite Bank Court also hosted magic shows, balloon modelling and face painting. JoCee and her band then took over the Rainbow Stage performing soundtracks and pop classics.

Local residents took to Facebook group Hemel Hempstead Remembered to give it the thumbs up, with one person saying: “The atmosphere was great, people socialising, town was heaving, just like it used to be.”

Dacorum Borough Council leader Andrew Williams was at the event to welcome in the changes and promises that there’s more to come.

He said: “Hemel Evolution has transformed our town centre - and work isn’t even finished yet.

“Next up it’s party time in the Old Town for Halloween on Sunday 25 October, followed by ‘Christmas Live @ Hemel Hempstead’ on Saturday 29 November.”
