MOTORISTS faced rush hour misery this morning (Thursday) as overnight winds caused trees to topple forcing road closures.
Redbourn Road and Gaddesden Lane were both closed after fallen trees blocked the highway.
Drivers on their way to work had to battle traffic through much of Hemel Hempstead, including slip roads off the M1 at J8 and the Maylands Industrial Estate.
Motorists queued from the M40 to get onto the M25 and warning signs on the M1 advised drivers to slow down due to strong winds.
A tree fell onto a parked car in Hawkshill Drive, Hemel Hempstead, at 5.47am and a chimney stack succumbed to strong winds in Wood Crescent, Hemel Hempstead, collapsing just before 9am.
