Travellers leave town after old tip site takeover

TRAVELLERS who moved in at an old tip site have left town following a court hearing.

Watford Magistrates’ Court found in favour of landowners Herts County Council on Friday to move the the travellers on.

The squatters left the former home of Tring’s Household Waste Recycling Centre by Monday.

Council spokesman Jo Brown said: “As soon as we were made aware of this problem, we moved swiftly to start the legal process required to remove the travellers from the council-owned land.

“We are pleased that the matter has been resolved.”

The travellers moved in to the Tring Ford Road site after forcing entry on Friday, April 29, after is had been locked and fenced off from public use.

The town’s tip was closed in 2009, despite strong opposition from residents.
