SPRUCING up a church and opening a cafe in its hall could soften the blow for people who are about to lose their social centre because it has been earmarked for demolition.
A concert by The Hemel Hempstead Band at The New Mill Baptist Church, in Tring, this Saturday at 7.30pm will help raise some of the £3,000 a year needed to maintain the Grade II listed building.
It is all the more needed now the church is hoping to attract more people with a cafe.
Minister in training Andrew Openshaw said: “There will be good quality Fair Trade coffee and paninis served from 10am to 2pm every Thursday from April 26.
“With a question mark hanging over New Mill Social Centre this is an opportunity to maintain a community social hub.”
