Two women from Tring have organised a charity concert as part of their fundraising challenge to trek Peru’s famous Inca Trail.

Friends Penny Harrison, 51, and Becky Thornhill, 40, are holding a concert at St Mary’s Church in Wendover on July 7, in the hope that it will get them closer to the target of £3,000 each they need to raise.

The pair will be trekking 50km from Cusco to Machu Picchu over five days in September, and will be climbing to heights of around 4,200m above sea level.

Music teacher Penny said: “We’ve always thought about doing something big, so we said: ‘Come on, let’s do it’, but after we booked it we thought: ‘This is really scary!’”

Both women have had people close to them affected by the disease, which makes the trek even more poignant.

Starting at 6pm, the concert will showcase performances from many talented musicians. Tickets – £10 for adults and £5 for under 16s – are available at Wendover Clock Tower and on 01296 696759 or 01442 891678.

All proceeds will go to Breast Cancer Care.
