The hunt is on to find men who can fill Santa’s big boots at a community centre’s festive grotto.

Highfield Community Centre needs jolly men to lend a hand at the magical den.

A weekend Santa has already been signed up but more volunteers are needed to help dish out presents and ‘ho ho ho’ during weekdays.

Centre chairman Pat Cox said: “We are struggling.

“We have got a lady that is standing in if needed – at a push – but we would rather not.”

Entry to the grotto, which opened on Saturday, costs £3 and includes a present. The funds raised go back into the Bellgate centre.

The grotto is open on weekdays 9am to 7pm, Saturday 9am to 4pm and Sunday 9am to 2pm.
