A41 death man in child sex case
The man killed after his car crashed into a bridge on the A41 was due to go on trial for child sex crimes the next day.
Primary School teacher Robert Stringer, aged 57, crashed into a bridge just past Bourne End services last Sunday at 11:30pm.
Stringer, of Bridgeworth in Shropshire, was due in to appear at Isleworth Crown Court, London, the following day on a number of charges including indecent assault, rape of a child under 13 and another under 14, and sexual assault on a child under the age of 14.
The Met Police confirmed all four victims were female and the attacks took place between 1999 and 2009.
The emergency services worked for four hours and firefighters had to use cutting equipment to free him after his red Peugeot 407 hit the bridge on the bypass in the direction of Watford.
He died at the scene and the cause of the accident is unclear.
An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned on last Tuesday.
The cause of death was multiple traumatic injuries and will be subject to confirmation at his inquest later this year.
Police are investigating the crash on behalf of the coroner's office.
Anyone who saw the crash is urged to call DC Dee Rayner from the Road Crash Investigation Unit on the non-emergency number 0845 33 00 222.
