Police will be giving out crime prevention advice and offering free bike security marking in a bid to combat crime in the run up to Christmas.

Officers will be at B&Q in Two Waters Way, Hemel Hempstead, on Saturday, December 8, between 1pm and 4pm.

PCSO Jenna Hastings said: “We’ll be providing people with tips about how to prevent burglary around the Christmas period, by taking simple steps such as leaving a light on to give the appearance someone is at home. This is a great opportunity to help prevent crime in the run up to Christmas.”

Security marking, which involves putting the postcode and house number on the bike by engraving and protecting it with a lacquer varnish, will also be on offer. Alternatively bikes can be marked with a UV pen and a sticker is placed on the bike warning that it is security marked.
