Axeman on rampage in Hemel Hempstead

SCARED neighbours raised the alarm after seeing a man with an axe running amok in Martian Avenue, Hemel Hempstead.

The man was seen swinging the stone-headed axe into a letterbox and walls along the road before police were alerted.

Six officers raced to the scene just before 8pm last night (Monday) and arrested the axeman, who it is believed had been drinking.

A 32-year-old man from Hemel Hempstead has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and possessing an offensive weapon.

A police spokesman said: “We were called following reports of a male carrying an axe and hitting things.”
