Part of a new comedy drama based on the children’s book Mr Stink by David Walliams is being filmed in Hemel Hempstead.

The BBC will be filming the adaptation starring Sheridan Smith, Johnny Vegas and Hugh Bonneville at a shop in Marlowes.

Smith, who played Smithy’s loud-mouthed sister Rudi in hit comedy Gavin and Stacey, stars alongside comedian Johnny Vegas as a mum and dad to lonely 12-year-old Chloe, played by Nell Tiger Free, who befriends local tramp Mr Stink, played by Downton Abbey actor Bonneville.

Comedian David Walliams will also make an appearance as the prime minister.

Crews are currently preparing the empty shop for filming, which is expected to start this weekend.

The programme will also be filmed in 3D.
