Berko promoted as Tring stumble in race for third place

Berkhamsted FC have been promoted to MSSML Division One at the first time of asking.

The club, who began life at the beginning of this season, beat rivals and closest title challengers Aston Clinton 3-0 to install themselves as firm favourites to win the league.

Winning one of their last two games will secure them the Division Two title.

A header from Luke Bartlett and a tap-in from James Armstrong, who provided the cross for the opener, put them two ahead in the first half.

Armstrong's 37th of the season was added to by Lawrence Bunker, who made it three when he headed in Tony Burnett's cross in the second half.

They go to Kent Athletic this Saturday with hopes of winning the league.

Tring Athletic, meanwhile, will need to win their last two matches if they are to be sure to keep hold of third spot in the Premier Division.

They were beaten 1-0 at home by Hertford Town despite dominating the match. Both Royston and Colney Heath are breathing down their neck, so three points are a must against Brimsdown Rovers and Hatfield Town over the next two Saturdays.

James Armstrong scored his 37th goal of the season.
