Berko's big game blues
There was disappointment all round Broadwater as Berkhamsted's hopes of reaching their first ever cup final were sunk.
They were beaten on penalties by Mursley United, a draw which favoured the Comrades, after a lacklustre 120 minutes' performance in their Division Two Cup semi final on Saturday.
And boss Micky Vipond believes if they carry on playing in the same vain they will be nowhere near achieving their ultimate goal of promotion this year:
"We are not top of the league for nothing" he said.
"We are there because we deserve to be there but if we continue in that vain we won't be there at the end of the season.
"It could have been the first cup final this new club has ever got to. We could have a small bit of history for the club but we didn't do enough for me. When big games have come around we haven't stepped up to the plate for me and that's the disappointing bit."
Vipond refused to blame his 'mish mash' of a team.
Without James Armstrong (ill) and Lawrence Bunker (cup-tied), with Tony Burnett forced to leave the pitch at the break, Berko were missing their three first-choice forwards and had to field men in unfamiliar positions.
Jon Davies, on his first start in 2010, equalised Jakub Kasprzyk's early effort with his 14th of the campaign, but was also forced off injured.
Successful spot kicks from Adam Mead and Graeme Milner, combined with the latter's save and a skied effort, made it 2-0 to the Comrades from 12 yards.
But Garratt saved from Anthony Beamsih, Steve Hawes and Steve Flain to give the visitors the win and set up a date with Aston Clinton.
Berko's cup dream will die if they at home to promotion rivals Padbury United in the quarter finalof the Anagram Records Trophy.
