CROOKS stole more than £16,000 worth of bikes in an early morning raid yesterday.
They smashed through the glass frontage at Road Room just before 6am to snatch six top of the range bicycles.
Thieves took a £2,500 Scott Contessa CR1 Pro, £2,800 Scott Addict R2, £2,000 R3, £2,800 Scott Foil 20, £4,000 Scott CR1 Pro and a £1,850 Cube Agree GTC Race.
The CRI Pro bike had a custom-fitted electronic pedal system worth £650.
The stands that the bicycles were displayed on inside the shop were also taken and discovered around 100 metres from the shop in Miswell Lane, Tring, where it is believed that crooks bundled the bicycles into a getaway vehicle.
The thieves had set an alarm off but had fled before police arrived.
Shop manager Dave Llewellyn, 29, said: “I am pretty gutted. We only opened this shop in September.
“We were just getting up and running and getting word-of-mouth out there, then this happens.
“It was on my first anniversary with my girlfriend. I had booked the day off to spend with her and instead of which, I was at work picking up bits of glass from the carpet.”
The raid also wrecked clothing and carpet close to the front door, causing about £2,000 worth of damage.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting crime reference D3-12-69.
