A MAN from Hemel Hempstead who preyed on the elderly has been jailed for four years for a string of burglaries.

Martin Wickens, 19, of no fixed abode, and his accomplice Elaine Doyle, 20, from Hampton in west London, pleaded guilty to four offences of distraction burglary and attempted distraction burglary.

Wickens, pictured, also admitted a further three offences, including two burglaries in Tring where he stole a wallet from a man in his 70s on July 31 and a purse from a woman in her 70s in Barbers Walk on August 2.

The pair were jailed for four years each at Harrow Crown Court on Friday.

Det Con Jill Green from Herts police said afterwards: “This pair deliberately targeted people aged in their late 60s and older, and that’s because people of this age tend to be a lot more trusting.”
